A multilingual, wholesale B2B webshop for a wide range of products with variations

Take a look at what we did for Enkels Feathers

THE CHALLENGE

Enkels Feathers sells decorative feathers wholesale to a professional audience, in a dizzying variety: marabou, ostrich, peacock, pheasant, turkey, rooster, guinea fowl — and in dozens of colours, too, and processed into boas, garlands, wreaths and fly-tying material. How do you guide a customer through such a broad range without them getting lost?

WHAT WE DID

We built a B2B webshop with two smart navigation axes and filters: shop by feather type and shop by colour. This way, a customer looking for “something red and fluffy” can find what they need just as quickly as the decorator or fashion designer who needs a specific rooster feather. The result is a clear, well-organised shop that puts a very special niche firmly on the professional map.

Multiple packaging formats for a product

Being able to filter by colour, size, length, type is fairly standard, but choosing from different packaging formats was an interesting problem to solve.

Do you want a B2B webshop for your wholesale business? Here are a few frequently asked questions.

With a large-scale B2B webshop, the biggest cost rarely lies in the design of the pages, but mainly in the underlying complexity. Think of products with numerous variants, sometimes even combinations of variants, and different packaging formats or complex filter criteria to search for products. On top of that, there is often an enormous product range, which leads to large amounts of data. Although much of this can be processed in bulk, there will always be exceptions that need to be adjusted manually because they are too specific for standard interfaces.

In addition, B2B rarely stops at national borders. Even though English is the international language of trade, customers usually prefer communication in their own language. Multilingualism therefore represents an important additional challenge, especially in a market like Belgium.

Good preparation and consistently formatted data
Make sure you can provide all product data in a consistent and structured way. So list all product categories and subcategories in Excel. All product data (Title, SKU, price, color, size, packaging type, short description) neatly as rows in Excel or CSV. Moonbeetle can provide sample documents so that you can supply your Excel or CSV in the best possible way. Proofread texts properly so you don’t have to correct them afterwards and so that translation can also go more smoothly.

Special attention to visuals
For each product, provide good photos or packshots in the optimal format for the e-commerce platform. Moonbeetle provides the technical specifications that images must meet in advance. Image processing, especially with a large number of products, can be very time-consuming. You may need to engage a photographer or AI. Think, for example, of complex situations where you need a light-colored product on a white background that is preferably the same across all products.

Watch out for exceptions
By default, e-commerce platforms have the following flow: a visitor browses the product range, chooses a product and adds it to the cart, possibly adjusts the quantity and checks out.
Exceptions to that flow are, for example: products that may not be sold to certain countries. Products that must be purchased in a bundle rather than individually. Orders where different products must be shipped in a box of a specific size, where the dimensions of the individual products determine the box size. But typical B2B situations also often form an exception for e-commerce platforms, just think of a B2B shop where product prices may only be shown to registered and approved resellers.

By default, systems don’t lose sleep over multiple languages and are often not designed for it. Multilingualism is therefore always an extension to an existing e-commerce platform in the form of a “plugin” or “add-on” that works with an annual subscription. Multilingual plugins often come in 3 types: manual translation only, fully automated translation, or a combination of both.

A lot of data? Then it’s best to translate as much as possible automatically and then manually check and correct where needed. Automated translation is more expensive, but saves a huge amount of time—and time is money too. Only after the first language version (the main language) is 100% OK do we start entering the translation.

Attention! The SEO metadata (URL slug based on the title + description) must also be translated.

Yes. We build every webshop on an e-commerce platform so that you can easily update products, product variants, texts, photos, stock levels, prices, packaging, etc. yourself.

An average project is completed in 4 to 6 weeks, depending on how quickly we receive the content and photos, and above all: how well the material is delivered. So final product lists, consistently formatted Excel or CSV product data, and good imagery.
